Hyper-V Release Candidate 0

March 19, 2008

The first release candidate of Hyper-V for Windows Server 2008 has been released.  There is an x86 and an x64 build.

Hyper-V is Microsoft’s hypervisor or "bare iron" virtualisation solution that is bundled with Windows Server 2008 versions.  There are licenses that don’t include Hyper-V – those will be around $28 cheaper.

There is no smooth upgrade process from beta to release candidate – as usual.  You’re looking at a rebuild.  John Howard has described the process on his blog.

Make sure you check out Dave Northey’s (Microsoft) sessions at IMTC – he’s going to be covering Microsoft’s virtualisation strategy and Hyper-V in two different sessions during day #3.
